The line length and spacing also influence readability and legibility. Lengthy lines become tiresome reading because they allow few pauses. Typefaces with little spacing between letters and words may appear truncated. The space between lines should also be carefully thought. If it's scarce cause problems to the user to find the next line, and if it's in excess isolates the lines so that they can't seem related.

 

In the examples below the Aesthetica magazine inserted more balanced spacing, while the Select magazine used tighter lines, even though has a typeface with a higher x-height.

On this case, the letterforms thickness was compensated with larger spacements, in order to balance form and counterform.
